I definitely think #1 is the way to go- It' s not as pretty as 3, but with a closed handle I think it will be more versatile and more useful in those situations where a travel mug becomes necessary.
I select mugs primarily based on their handles, which to me are essential. I vote for #2 since the open part of the handle bottom works well for those with bigger hands and the ridging helps keep klutzy people like me from dumping my drink in my lap.
